Remember how we talked about spending our ’01 Reunion in Charleston and 9/11 intervened. And then we planned to do the Reunion in ‘03 in Colorado Springs? Well, some few, little things have changed. The mountains are much smaller, the month will not be September, the temperatures will be more temperate and…all of us AFWOANS will have the chance to participate in the 2003 Celebration of America’s Military (CAM) which takes place in San Antonio Texas from 1-11 November 2003. Yes, we are moving to San Antonio!

We have made arrangements with the Adam’s Mark Hotel on the Riverwalk in San Antonio for an incredible $91 per night, single or double occupancy, for our Reunion, which is now scheduled for 6-9 November 2003. Your Board of Directors has taken up the gauntlet and is planning the event. This will be a class act and fun for all.

Having the Reunion coincide with CAM is San Antonio’s way of recognizing the long history and contributions of the military to San Antonio. The 11-day celebration starts 1 November with an air show at Randolph AFB. Opening ceremonies occur on Monday 3 November at the Alamo and the CAM golf tournament is 4 November. Wouldn’t it be a hoot if we could pull together an AFWOA-sponsored team or two combined with active duty military women?  I am a designated refreshment truck driver or Hole-in-One watcher so I will be there cheering the group on.

Wednesday, the San Antonio Downtown Rotary, the world’s largest Rotary, hosts the Commanders luncheon. Again, I see a real opportunity to have an AFWOA table with visiting AFWOA Rotarians and sponsoring one or two of our local women commanders. Thursday, the Air Force Association sponsors a “combat breakfast” which this year will honor enlisted flyers as a part of the Centennial of Flight commemoration. Thursday night is also the big evening event, which occurs in the La Villita Assembly Hall, which is in the center of downtown San Antonio. Friday, the Association of the United States Army sponsors a luncheon at Ft. Sam and then Saturday is the annual Veteran’s Day parade. I would like to see an AFWOA HumVee or Float with a nice cross-section of our members participating in the parade. The Celebration concludes with the laying of the memorial wreaths at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. This celebration will enhance our Reunion and make our time together more eventful.

More details are forthcoming.  [Click on Reunion Update, Schedule, and/or Registration Form.]
